About me...
I have been practicing shiatsu since 2001, graduating with honours from the Shiatsu Academy of Tokyo's 2200 hour program.
I work with a wide range of clients, both private and corporate, with diverse health conditions. I have helped clients with conditions ranging from stress and muscular tension to severe migraines, Parkinson's Disease, recovery from organ transplants and side-effects of chemotherapy.
I particularly enjoy working with musicians and other performing artists, helping them to overcome the stresses and strains on their bodies and minds and allowing them to perform at their peak. I have been working regularly with the musicians of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 2002 and am now working on a book on self-care for musicians.
My passion for my work and the natural healing professions have led me to volunteer with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC)(www.nhpcanada.org), of which I am a member. The NHPC is dedicated to promoting the art and science of natural health practices, to serving the needs and maintaining the professional standards of natural health practitioners and to improving health care in Canada. NHPC's approximately 6,500 members across the country practice a wide variety of natural health practices, among them shiatsu. I have volunteered on several committees and on the NHPC Board of Directors from 2004-2008, serving as Treasurer, Vice President and finally as President from 2007-2008.
A firm believer in the benefits of volunteering, I have also been a volunteer at Toronto's Ronald McDonald House since graduating from school in 2001. Each week I spend several hours offering short shiatsu treatments to the parents and children who stay at the house. I have gained valuable clinical experience and have hopefully made a difference in many people's lives by providing them with a caring touch and a bit of stress relief during an extremely difficult time. I have also had the pleasure of appearing on 'A Day in the Life' which spotlighted Toronto's Ronald McDonald House on Slice Network's 'Doctor in the House'.
A thirst for knowledge has driven me to pursue a variety of courses which lend themselves well to improving the care I can provide to my clients. I have studied both Spanish and French and can converse in both, often at the same time.
Leisure pursuits such as rock-climbing and fencing have given me an understanding of the importance of natural health care, and in particular, shiatsu, in health maintenance and injury prevention.
I enjoy and work towards helping each of my clients attain their health goals.
