About Shiatsu...
Shiatsu is a Japanese massage that has roots in ancient Chinese medicine.
The therapist applies comfortable, sustained pressure with their thumbs and hands to specific points on the client's body. Shiatsu is used to treat a myriad of conditions, both acute and chronic, and is excellent for decreasing stress and tension and maintaining and improving health.
Migraines, insomnia, digestive disorders, repetitive strain injuries, sciatica, chronic pain, anxiety, fibromyalgia, arthritis, muscular injuries and whiplash (to name just a few) can all benefit from shiatsu. Though there are points all over the body, the therapist focuses on the specific needs of the client. Regardless of the aim of the treatment, general relaxation and a sense of well-being are always part of the end result.
A full treatment lasts sixty to ninety minutes and is done with the client fully clothed, lying on a massage table or a comfortable mat. Some clients prefer to disrobe, in which case they are draped with a sheet.
Shorter treatments of twenty or thirty minutes are also quite effective, particularly if done on a regular basis. Short treatments can be done using a massage chair and are ideal for a corporate environment.
Shiatsu can be performed on anyone, regardless of their age or condition. The depth and strength of pressure is adjusted to suit the needs and comfort level of each individual client.
